Memorable awards night for employees at AX Holdings

It was a special evening for employees at AX Holdings as they celebrated their annual AX Awards Night at The Palace, Sliema. During this pleasurable gala night, the staff working in construction, hospitality, development and the healthcare industry within the company, were acknowledged by the management team for their effectiveness in their job. The company comprehends the psychology of praising its workers for their good work, to apply the principles of employee appreciation and to inspire others to initiate it in their working relationships.

As a sign of gratitude and appreciation, the Chairman and CEO of AX Holdings Mr Angelo Xuereb awarded all the employees who have been working for five to thirty years in the company. Mr Xuereb trusts that when employees and their work are valued, their fulfilment and productivity rises, and they are encouraged to uphold or improve their good work.

Sandro Millo, who works at Seashells Resort at Suncrest, was chosen for Premju Haddiem Nazzjonali tas-Sena. This nomination is based on that employee who leads by example and is loyal towards the company and exceeds company expectations.

Carmel Degiorgio from AX Construction and Duncan Sciberras from Hilltop were awarded The Perseverance Award after showing determination and willpower in their line of work regardless of any difficulties they have come across.

AX Hotels in Sliema, The Palace and The Victoria gave two specific awards for Consistency and Motivation. Karl Bugeja from The Victoria won The Consistency Award as he reached the criteria’s set for this honour for always being consistent in his work, acting professional at all times and for always exceeding customers’ expectations. Employees Manuel Camilleri from The Victoria Hotel and Russell Buhagiar from The Palace won The Motivation Award. Both staff members were referred to as being good motivators to themselves and to their co-workers by portraying positive thoughts and managing to get the work done professionally and competently.

Four staff members from AX Group, were nominated from the company for The Star Awards. This is an initiative through the Malta Tourism Authority to recognise employees who excel and go the extra mile within the tourism industry.  The nominated employees were; Sandra Sparkes from Sunny Coast, Quenten Attard from The Palace and Emanuel Mercieca and Charles Abela both from The Victoria Hotel. MTA CEO Mr Paul Bugeja joined Mr Xuereb to present The Star Awards. Charles Abela won the award for The Food & Beverage Service Category, given by the Malta Tourism Authority, amongst all the other nominees from the industry.

Mr Xuereb, together with TripAdvisor Display Sales Executive, Mr Emilio Santos presented The TripAdvisor Award to five employees, from every unit who had their names praised and mentioned the most, in reviews on the website. The winners were Andrew Toth from The Palace, Charles Portelli from The Victoria Hotel, Joseph Vella from Seashells Resort at Suncrest, Lillian Cutajar from Sunny Coast Resort & Spa and Noella Bell from Tal-Kaptan Valletta Waterfront.

Six employees were also nominated for The Chairman’s Award. This is the first time this award has been given, and employees were nominated for this, as through their work they have been an exemplary employee for their colleagues and other teams. The nominated employees were:  Anna Azzopardi from Sunny Coast Resort & Spa, Audra Baldacchino from Hilltop Gardens, Jonathan Spiteri from The Palace, Robert Zammit from The Victoria Hotel, Noel D’Agostino from Tal-Kaptan and Josef Cauchi from Seashells Resort at Suncrest, who was the winner of this award.

The motto at AX Holdings is to inspire people and based on this fact, during his speech, Mr Xuereb emphasised that “inspiration pushes a person from indifference to possibility, and transforms the way we perceive our own capabilities. Inspiration can be triggered, captured, and manipulated, and it has a major effect on important life outcomes.”

Guest speaker, Ing. Marco Cremona was invited by the company to deliver an inspiring and motivational speech to all employees present at the AX Awards Night.

At the end of this special event, Mrs Josephine Xuereb, wife of the chairman, was presented with a donation of €5030, which was collected from all the employees of AX Group towards the AX Foundation. This organisation, which is chaired by Mrs Xuereb herself, targets in helping out persons, especially the employees, who unfortunately are going through a difficult situation in their life and would require financial aid.
