History has been made in the Maltese culinary scene.
The gastronomy world’s most prestigious list has been revealed and Under Grain and Grain Street have gained MICHELIN success at the 2022 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Malta. Renowned restaurant, Under Grain has once again been awarded a MICHELIN Star for the third consecutive year while sister restaurant, Grain Street, was also recognised with a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand. Under Grain and Grain Street have now become the first local restaurants of MICHELIN recognition under one roof.
MICHELIN Star success for the third consecutive year
Under Grain strives to reach gastronomic excellence with every dish and dinner service, and this award is testament to the high culinary standards of renowned Executive Chef Victor Borg together with the kitchen brigade and service staff.
A proud moment for the Grain Street team
Grain Street has also achieved MICHELIN success, being awarded a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand just three months after opening its doors to patrons. Grain Street was the only restaurant to newly receive this accolade in the 2022 edition of the Guide, joining an elite group of just three restaurants who have retained their award.
Located at street level within the 5-star luxury hotel Rosselli AX Privilege in the heart of Valletta’s Merchants Street, Grain Street offers unique gastronomy to its patrons in the form of a sharing concept. The successes of both Under Grain and Grain Street awards have rendered Grain the only Maltese brand to house two award-winning MICHELIN restaurants under the same roof – the first achievement of its kind in Malta.
Exceeding expectations throughout
Despite the continued pandemic restrictions, Chef Victor commended his team for another year of hard work and achievements. “I am immensely proud of everyone involved in bringing MICHELIN Star success to Under Grain for another year and Grain Street’s first recognition – the only Bib Gourmand to be newly awarded this year. Each team member rose to the challenge and worked collaboratively in order to provide patrons with the best possible service. It is an honour to have two award-winning MICHELIN restaurants under the same roof. On behalf of the entire team, we look forward to creating more memorable gourmet experiences.”
Claire Zammit Xuereb, Director of Hospitality and Care at AX Group commended the kitchen brigade and service staff for their dedication and hard work. “It is immensely satisfying to see that the Grain restaurants are pushing boundaries and making history in the Maltese culinary sector. The Grain team has been working diligently to bring Grain Street’s unique sharing concept to life over the past three months whilst also retaining the highest of culinary standards at Under Grain. In spite of all the challenges faced during the past year, the team continues to strive towards excellence and this award is a testament to their dedication and service.”
Established in the late 19th century, MICHELIN has maintained its benchmark of international food for more than 120 years, recognising outstanding restaurants, breadth of cuisine styles and culinary skills around the world.
