AX Foundation’s mission has always been to provide assistance to children with invisible challenges and to support young individuals facing social, mental or physical difficulties.
The AX Foundation is dedicated to supporting individuals with invisible learning abilities, with a primary focus towards those on the autism spectrum. As the charitable arm of AX Group, AX Foundation was founded in 1996 to assist people facing social, mental, or physical challenges. Up until 2018, the Foundation supported numerous NGOs, cultural initiatives, and individuals facing financial difficulties due to health issues and personal circumstances.
In 2019, Ms. Claire Xuereb was appointed Chairperson, succeeding Mrs. Josephine Xuereb, Founding Member of AX Foundation. With this new leadership came a renewed mission to support children and young people with invisible challenges, helping them become as independent as possible and contributing to national policy-making.
With the aim to influence change at a national level, the Foundation identifies gaps in support services and resources for these children to develop projects with key public and private organisations and NGOs to reach the highest number of individuals in need.
We continue to work closely with government entities, NGOs, parents’ associations, health professionals, and public and private schools to train educators and specialists in the field, providing them with better resources. Our philosophy is to support all educators and professionals, regardless of whether they work in public, church, or private independent schools, for the benefit of the children.
The Foundation also extends its support beyond traditional classroom education to include the arts and sports, believing these facets are essential for preparing young individuals for adulthood. We have plans for more ideas, conferences, and training programs to continue educating affected individuals, professionals, educators, and parents.
Funds are also being raised through direct contributions from AX Group, and guests staying at any of the AX Hotels are invited to contribute to the cause. By investing in specialised entities that efficiently use resources provided by AX Foundation, AX Group is working towards a better and more inclusive future for all.

The AX Foundation was officially launched by Mr Angelo Xuereb, Chairman of the AX Group, on the 26th April, 2006. The activities of the AX Foundation, however, have roots dating back ten years earlier. In 1996, Mrs Josephine Xuereb, as Chairperson of the Charitable Welfare Society and Mr Xuereb’s wife, was the driving force that led the Company to provide opportunities to a number of institutions and NGOs. With the full support of the Company, Mrs Xuereb sought to help raise funds for their respective organisations.
Since being set up in 2006, the AX Foundation has continued on the same path introduced by Mrs Xuereb. Both the Charitable Welfare Society and the AX Foundation were fully subsidised and supported by the AX Group, with a newly-appointed Board of Trustees leading the way forward. The objectives of their Statute were publicly announced during a Press Release at the time of launching. While carrying on with its previous policy of helping recognised organisations, institutions and missions with their fundraising activities, the foundation had also extended its support to cultural initiatives and individuals who, due to health problems, found themselves in difficult financial situations.
In 2019, Mrs Josephine Xuereb passed on this project to her daughter, Ms Claire Zammit Xuereb to take the foundation to the next level. The AX Foundation has embarked on numerous noteworthy activities since 2006.
AX Foundation, in collaboration with the Directorate for Disability Issues and the Autism Advisory Council, is organising a three-day training initiative to enhance employment opportunities for neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with autism and ADHD. Supported by Specialisterne Ireland, AVPA, and Prisms Malta, this pilot project focuses on training officials from Aġenzija Sapport and other stakeholders within the agency’s Way to Work programme.
The first two days at AX The Victoria Hotel will focus on interactive workshops aimed at equipping Agency officials with the necessary tools and knowledge. Day three will be a dedicated conference at AX The Palace, Sliema (State Hall), aimed at prospective employers. It will focus on recognising and valuing the strengths of candidates with invisible disabilities, making it especially relevant for CEOs, HR managers, and business leaders seeking to create inclusive workplaces.
The trainers delivering this initiative are all professionals who work closely with neurodivergent individuals, co-producing meaningful and relevant training content. Trainers will include Joana Simões, Associate at the Portuguese Association Voz do Autista (PT); Peter Brabazon, CEO of Specialisterne Ireland, BE (Elec.), HDip (Business); and Margaret White, Head of Disability Services at Prisms.
