AX Group recently hosted its annual AX Awards, a key event in the Group’s calendar dedicated to recognising the dedication, service and achievements of its employees across all sectors. The evening brought together colleagues from across the organisation to celebrate the individuals and teams whose contributions continue to drive the Group forward.
This year’s ceremony honoured employees celebrating long‑service milestones spanning 5 to 35 years, underscoring the loyalty and dedication that continue to be central to AX Group’s sustained growth.
In his address, Chairman Angelo Xuereb reflected on the importance of people in building a successful organisation. “Our workforce is one of the most important elements of our success. When we hire, we’re not simply filling a role. We’re bringing people in with moments like this in mind, where we stand together and celebrate long service, loyalty and excellence,” he said. He also emphasised the diversity and strength of the Group’s workforce, noting that with over 1,300 employees across 281 different roles and numerous nationalities, AX Group continues to thrive through a shared commitment to determination, creativity and integrity.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of CEO and Deputy Chairman Michael Warrington, who celebrated 25 years with AX Group. Marking the occasion, Mr Warrington was surprised with a commemorative video message from Chairman Mr Angelo Xuereb and Directors Claire and Denise Xuereb, who shared personal reflections, experiences and insights on his leadership and the impact he has had on the Group’s growth and success.
In his speech, Mr Warrington spoke about the importance of teamwork and shared purpose. “Our employees are the cornerstone of the Group. With so many of you here tonight, I am reassured that our businesses are strong and that more people see their employment with the Group as a long-term career,” he said, while reinforcing the importance of collaboration and mutual support across all functions.
The ceremony also recognised outstanding contributions in sustainability and community engagement. The ESG Award was presented to Mr James Gabarretta for his commitment to organising CSR initiatives and championing sustainability efforts across the Group. The CSR Award was awarded to a team from AX Construction, who during the company shutdown period came together to collect and donate gifts for children cared for by the Missionaries of Charity in Malta.
A key moment of the evening was the presentation of the Chairman’s Awards, recognising excellence across various levels of the organisation.
The Chairman’s Awards in the Operative and Administrative Category were presented to John Cassar (AX Construction), Mario Fenech (AX Hotels Qawra), Sujani Manamperi Koralaye (AX Hotels, Valletta) and Shiviani Rana (AX Hotels Sliema).
The Chairman’s Awards in the Supervisory and Management Category were awarded to Fabio Billi (AX Construction), Brady Dalli (AX Hotels, Rabat), Rodney Cauchi (AX Hotels, Qawra), Etienne Gusman (AX Hotels, Valletta) and Timea Lukinity (AX Care).
Nominees for the Chairman’s Senior Management Award were Joseph Galdes (AX Group), Tara Falzon (AX Care) and Vince Saydon (AX Construction). The award was presented to Josef Sant, Head of Commercial and Distribution Strategy at AX Hotels, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and strategic contribution. Having built his career within AX Group over more than a decade, progressing through key commercial and revenue management roles, Josef has played an instrumental role in strengthening the Group’s commercial performance and driving forward its distribution strategy.
As part of the ceremony, Claire Xuereb presented donations made over the past year to the AX Foundation, reaffirming the Group’s continued commitment to supporting meaningful community initiatives.
